I am getting ready to purchase a Heat Press and would like some advise. I was going to get a clam shell, but I read somewhere that they can cause problems when printing on thicker garments because they come down on an angle. Can anyone speak from experience?

We are currently using two 1550PA dual-platen automatic heat presses from Advanced Innovative Technologies. We have had custom platens designed for various size products and we have also installed laser alignment systems from Laser Targeting Systems. They work flawlessly and we have just ordered a third unit. While not cheap, the advantages of dual platens and automatic operation mean they will pay for themselves far faster while saving the human operator from endless strain and fatigue. These will make your shop far more productive, they are well worth the money.
