The easiest way to trap is to create an outline and right clicking on the object choose 'overprint outline'. You can set the overprint amount by the outline width.

Here I have drawn a circle & a square, the circle has an outline, I've right clicked & got a menu with the overprint outline option.
If you don't have objects you will not get this option. So bitmaps and other placements will not show this behaviour.
The two objects will print butt-fit with the outline placed over the join, by default the outline is centralised on the object edge but you can alter this.
