Hi I'm new to the whole screen printing but the few shirts that I've printed have came out really good. I use a 160 mesh and water based inks. Now I'm trying to print on black shirts and haven't been successful :[ I tried printing yellow on black but you can't even tell its on the shirt. So I was wondering if I had to print white first and then lay the yellow down? If you guys could could help me that would be great because I reallyyyyy want to start printing on dark shirts. Thanks :]

I’ve never used water based inks, but in any situation I’ve seen laying a white under coat makes all the difference, even if you don’t see the white, it will brighten the color

Make sure you dry the white under coat before going over the top of it though

Seems like a lot of poeple are using waterbased inks anymore.
Print a stroke or 2 and flash it then print again.

Good luck..

Hi,
I print with waterbased inks- in fact a lot of people are turning back to them again- since they are more enviro friendly. You should purchase a brand that is called Permaset. They have an amazing line of SUPERCOVER inks that are amazing for covering black in one pass- no undercover needed. Check out my blog post on getting started- it might have some info that you'll find useful.
