Hi everyone,
I'm starting a clothing line and have been looking for screen printers in my area. There is one that I have been in contact with who have quoted me for a couple designs. They charge a film charge of $15-$25 per color depending on the size, as well as a screen fee of $30 per color, plus the cost per print (around $1.25). Now, I had used screen printers in the past and don't remember paying for BOTH film AND screen charges separately, but I could be imagining things. Is this normal??
Are these rates normal?

Well... its normal to them.
Some people charge fees for everything. Some people charge no fees but a higher PER COLOR price.
It all boils down to the PER SHIRT PRICE after all the fees are added.
In my honest opinion having several fees just confuses the customer and makes the sale tougher. We have all inclusive pricing.
We dont have to deal with "Well I already paid a screen charge last time, Why do I have to pay that again?"
All inclusive pricing (when done right) is better for everyone.

.... I can give you my opinion but I can't tell you if it's right or not.

Thanks for getting my back on that one d!
I am getting SO MANY people coming in and asking for quotes... I raised my prices again.
People sell to cheap in this industry and they dont last long.

Every year when the new phonebook comes out we sit around and compare to last year and see how many shops made it and how many did not. Very few new shops make it past a year in the yellow pages. Seems every one who has a computer, printer, plotter and a speedball kit thinks they are business savvy. Expensive lesson when your family's financial well being is at stake.
