Problems printing on zip-up hoodies

Hi, I'm trying to print a big image on a zip-up hoodie. The image goes on the front and goes over the zipper. Because of the zipper in the middle, i've been getting bad quality (uneven) prints. My screen actually ripped after a lot of tries. Is there a way to do this and get good quality prints?

You need a platten specifically made to print on hoodies with zippers. Action should have them in stock.

Grab a couple of pieces of Masonite or hardboard.
Cut them to fit your platen leaving a gap
wide enough for the zipper to recess down into.
I adhere them with spray tack applied
to the platen and the back of the hardboard.
Print away.

also using a water based ink when printing over seams, the ink excess will burn off, and give you a better print over the seams.

I only suggest printing with water based on the zippers as well. If you are going to use plastisol make sure and thin it out as much as possible or it still will glob around zipper. I also agree that using a special platen is the way to go. Yes cardboard works fine for short runs but for large print runs I suggest investing in that platen, it will be worth your customers happy faces.
