Chemicals

Recently bought second hand screen printing equipment for my company, it came with everything (I think)
Question:
1) The emulsion I have is purple and came with a little pot of something, the instructional DVD says 'you may think its empty but its not, simply add X amount of water and mix it into the purple emulsion' - To me it does look empty, only showing remenants of a blue liquid stuck to the insides. I want to know what this little pot of chemicals is called and how do I know if my emulsion has had it already mixed in hence why pot may be empty?
