Creating seperations -RGB? CYMK?

Post by Maxie »

I have customers sending me files to print process on T Shirts.
I get all sorts of files, tiff, eps, psd, pdf, etc.
Sometimes I get very accurate results, sometimes not so good.
Does anyone have info or know where I can learn about RGB vs CYMK and general info on creating seps using Photoshop and Corel.
Can you open a RGB in Photoshop convert to CYMK and get the same result?

CMYK? RGB?

Post by Hex Screen »

Maxie,

Open your files in photoshop as RGB,
then convert them to CMYK, you should see a difference.

Make sure your colour settings in all your graphics programs
use the same colour specs.

I always open them as RGB and then convert to CMYK.

Then I can check the breakdown of individual colours.

If your black is made of all other colours, you can get rid
of them if they are in text, to make registration easier etc.

You can also clean up areas that you know wont work well,
like colours being too strong in other colours. For instance
blues that have alot of yellow in them, they may look blue
on screen however if you hold the cursor over the blue and it says
100C 75Y 50K then its a sure thing that it wont print blue.

I then embed the colour profile, and output in my RIP program.

Have a look at the files you know worked well and see if
they have things like colour profiles embeded, how are
colours made up, RGB or CMYK etc.
Once you know what file types work well you can tell customers
that you only accept certain files.

The other thing is to proof the files first, exactly at the same rulings
and angles etc that you use to output film.

you could try calibrating you screen inks and loading these profiles
on to your computer.

A lot of trial and error, Screen printing has quite alot of variables +
a lot of Variables in process printing.

Good luck.
