Hello

Post by xIIscrapsIIx »

Hi, my name is Jonathon. I just registered to this forum tonight. I'm from Ohio, and I am interested in turning screen printing into a career. I know that I have work cut out for me getting to that point, but do you have any suggestions to get me on my way?

Welcome. Have you considered looking for employment at an existing shop to learn? Pay won't be much but you'll get the experience and training you need to get started. Community colleges sometimes have industrial printing courses. Won't be totally on screen printing but useful all the same. For a lot of good info use the search feature on this site. There is an awful lot to learn in this trade, it's not just "pushing ink through a rag" as a good friend of mine used to joke. Best of luck.

I would also try to attend some tradeshows like ISS (http://www.issshows.com/) they had a show in Ohio a few months back so you will prolly have to wait till next year or travel.
Also start saving your pennies. With the increased cost of cotton, shirt prices are 3 times what they were in 2000
(I blame George Bush but thats the the Artist in me)
Good Luck
.... I can give you my opinion but I can't tell you if it's right or not.

I plan on attending a class through Ryonet... I will also learn some from my dad, he used to screen print. Meanwhile I've been reading books, buying DVD's, and doing some good old hands on practice...
