Have been using a vinyl cutter to make my positives, was wanting to know more about image
setters or what other printers are using to make positives.

Sometimes the plotter and others the epson 9500.

I've been on postcard printing for a year now. I'm using hp deskjet 4820. It's good. The quality of my prints are terrific.

Most Epsons are good, depends what size of film that you need.
A4 & A3s are basic but functional, at A2 & over the 4450/7450/9450 are excellent - good registration and density.
K3 printers are less good, the ink isn't as dense.
