High, Norm, Low or Crazy Low

Post by TMP_D »

I recently lost a job to a quote I thought was a bit off, was wondering if I could see what you all thought of this, I’m not looking for your quote on the job, only if you would rate the quote High, Norm, Low or Crazy Low

The customer would be a low volume customer, so nothing that if you get this job you will be set up for several to follow or anything like that, just a normal job

(Around 30 youth - Royal T's / 50/50's)
(2 color front, personal names on back)
(A few adults to go with them)
(Would have to redo a low rez internet picture for front print)

Job goes for 8.50 each (art, screens the whole job)
--7.50 each actually took it, but with screen fees added to price, was told 8.50 was the total price of the shirts--

Crazy low.

Just a 2" player name trom Stahl's would cost almost $2.00 with shipping.

I come in quite a bit higher even before factoring in 2 screens.

Ya i think the guy had to be doing it with pretty much no profit in mind, at best prices there is only about room for 2$ on it at that price, that would hardly factor in any labor or anything else

Thanks for reply chief

Okay....
I voted CRAZY LOW... Even in this HORRIBLE money time.

Shirt Retail = $4 x 30 = $120
screen printing = $4 x 30 (2 screens, 1hour pre press, 1hour On/Post Press, 1hour clean up) = $120
Personalized (thats $$$) = $5 x 30 (1 hour heat apply name bars) = $150
I get $13 and do jobs like this DAILY! $390/30 shirts

If you are self employed and dont pay yourself over $50 Hr well them maybe you should not be in business for yourself.

ATTENTION PEOPLE..... PLEASE BE ADVISED YOU WILL NOT BE RECEIVING A "BAIL-OUT", "RESCUE PLAN" or "BUSINESS STIMULUS" like the rest of the Corporatist Pigs (GM,Ford,AIG,etc.)
This being said its in your best interest to charge correctly. If you are self employed and dont pay yourself over $50 Hr well them maybe you should not be in business for yourself.

Not trying to hurt anyone's feelings but guys like me that charge full price (or fair market value) can afford to be a bit slower this time of year without fear of complete failure.

Good Luck
T
.... I can give you my opinion but I can't tell you if it's right or not.

Thanks for the reply guys,

I quoted the guy 11.57 for the shirts myself, I’ve looked at it several ways now, and even if the guy is cutting his own letters, he couldn’t have been getting but around 2 dollars, which hardly covers anything

Roadside:

Small business owners don’t get any portion of these bailout packages? I thought all we had to do was bank all the money we can, and then have "The One's"
Come in and pay all we don’t? Plus give us some nice new bonuses

I worked for GM for 10 years before leaving to open a print shop, they don’t need a bail out rescue plan, they just need to get out of the stinken automotive industry and let China give us cars for 5k$ again, same goes with the others
