How do I edit a fountain fill so that it won't band when screen printed? Please help.

I presume that you are talking about postscript banding, I could bore you for hours on this but...
If you have a low resolution imaging device, such as a 720dpi printer and try and print e.g. a 72lpi screen, the postscript cells are 720/72 dots across (& down). Your cell has 100 dots and you can only change greyscale by 1% increments. At 36lpi, you have 20x20 cells and 400 greys.
If you are using a bitmap file at 300dpi or lower, your banding is going to be worse.
