Registering to film vs registering to a print?

I've been screen printing for 11 years now and have always registered multicolored jobs by setting up the underbase screen (or the detail black ect. if there isn't an underbase) and print that on to a pellon or scrap shirt then register the colors to that print. That's the way I've always seen people do it and that's the way I've always done it with no problems. I started working at a new shop 6 months ago and my new boss will not let me set up jobs this way. He says it's the wrong way. He wants me to register jobs to the film instead of a print. He says registering to the film gives a more true registration which doesn't make sense to me. The way I do it you are registering to the actual print so you know that's where it's go to be printed. Registering to the film adds at least 2 more steps, 1: cleaning a pallet so you can see contrast between the pallet and the film. 2: registering one more screen because you have to register the underbase to the film as well as the colors, and then usually much more micro adjusting than the way I've alwa done it. I would love some input on this matter. Pros and cons? Advice? Anything? I'm working on an M&R Diamondback 7 color 8 station.

Yes but now a days screen printing is very few in use although its dependency does not end so quickly....
