How much border to leave on screens?

Post by bumbl.e »

Hi forum!

If I'm printing a 20 x 26" poster, how big would my screen need to be? Basically, I'm asking how much of a buffer should i leave between my print and the screen frame? I read somewhere that the print shouldn't go to the edge of the frame.

Thanks!

A couple of inches around the border, you need to allow the screen to stretch around the squeegee.

i'd say three fingers worth - or 2 inches. But that would also depend on the squeegee size. Unless you've got them all custom made

Top and bottom of your screen you need more room...at the top to allow someplace for your ink after your flood stroke, at the bottom to ensure you have enough room to complete your print stroke...I'd say a minimum of six or seven inches at the top of your screen and five to six at the bottom...along the edges you need probably only need three inches each side...
