building an exposure unit

Post by tawki_usa »

Hi everyone!
My name is Arsen. I'm really "GREEN" (new guy) in screen printing stuff.
I was looking through a lot of web sites, video and tutorials, BUT I still have a question!!!
My question is about Exposure unit and processing.
I saw on the web that a lot of people doing exposure using different ways: SUN, high watts Fluorescent light bulbs, blacklights...
What is the best way to exposure the screen?
what about blacklightning or maybe SUN is the best way to do it?
I'm exposure 52"x52" screens (48"x48" pictures).
If you could help me with that I would be appreciate it.
Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. I look forward to your response.

Metal Halide bulbs give better uv output, halogen will be slow.
You need to set you lamp-to-screen distance to somewhere near the internal diagonal of the screen ~75" in this case.

Black lights emit their uv in the near uv part of the spectrum, about 380nm+? Most emulsions are designed to be most sensitive at 365nm, which happens to be the main emission line of the Metal Halide bulb. They work but will be slower.
