Exposure or Emulsion

Post by Flash Design »

Our screens are acting like they are over exposed on one end and under exposed on the other end. We have tried longer exposure time, increasing the emulsion drying time and we are now stumped. Could the emulsion be bad? Could our exposure unit be acting up. We have used this exposure unit for years with no problems. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Coat a screen, cover half with a mask such as cardboard. Give it a standard exposure.
Turn the screen over, swap the mask and give an identical exposure.
If it is your light source then you should see the underexposed sections at opposite ends of the screen.
If not, you need to look at your emulsion etc.

It is a new metal halide bulb. But the emulsion is quite old. We will do the mask test and let you know our results. Thank you for you responces.

Well there ya go. Get a new bucket of emulsion. Once sensitized, emulsion is basically fresh fish, once it gets old without being consumed it's no good.
