Looking for starter list, hobby level

Post by thomas.wright »

Hi all -

We just opened a bar and are looking to make our own T-Shirts, both for expense and for the rougher look that DIY stuff may have.
I did a little screen printing for classwork back in school in like 1983, but I can't recall much.

Does anyone have a good starter list of things to get for someone doing small work? Basically, hobby level or slightly higher?

I'm looking for a brand of inks that last. I have seen various tutorials online regarding sunlight for exposure, creating a transparency to burn the screens, etc.

Any advice would be VERY welcome. If this goes well, it can easily become a side business for me. I'm a prepress and separations guru (litho -- not screen), so no issues there.

Can you do colors tightly when doing hand-work? or are you better off with loose art?

Honestly if you just opened a BAR.... you need to pay more attention to your bar because you will make more money there.
Screen printing is not really a hobby. It will consume your life if you let it.

Pay someone to do your screen printing and tell them you want them to look ROUGH and they will do it.

I would MUCH rather own a bar then a print shop
.... I can give you my opinion but I can't tell you if it's right or not.
