Zebra Stripes on Linen-Type material

Post by bing*art »

I'm trying to print black on some grey Red Kap brand shirts that are 65% polyester & 35% cotton. When I print the black I get these stripes that can only be seen at different angles. It doesn't seem to be a moire problem but I could be up in the night. I'm wondering if I used a matte black ink if that might help. It almost seems to be a sheen from the ink working with linen-like weave of the fabric. Can anyone help me with this? Please take a look at the photo included. Thanks for your help.

looks like moire to me.

Did you stretch the screen yourself??

Try a different line angle when outputting your file. This looks to be at 45 degrees. Try 17 or even 0
.... I can give you my opinion but I can't tell you if it's right or not.

What you're seeing is caused by the texture of the fabric you are printing on.

We see the same thing when printing on certain jacket materials.

Going to a flat finish ink may reduce the effect somewhat but it's kind of
like printing on corduroy, It's still going to be there.

Screen angle MAY be able to diminish the effect but I doubt it.

BTW, Nice looking art and print!

Keep in mind the print will look fine at 3 feet.
We're so used to looking at a print up close and critiquing it.

The customer will probably cream their jeans!! 8)

Thanks for the great info. I went back and reprinted my black seperation and changed the frequency, shape of dot and angle and it solved my problem. So it was moire after all! Thanks again,
